The 1994 – 1995 seasons saw Southampton finish off the campaign in 10th position, their highest league finish since 1990. Matt le Tissier was in fine form for the club and scored probably the goal of the season for the Saints.
The 1995 – 1996 campaign saw the Saints struggle once again in the premiership, once again avoiding relegation narrowly as they finished off the campaign in 17th place. They enjoyed a fine run in the FA cup as they surged in to the quarter finals only to meet Manchester United, a club who would go on to win the double that season. The Saints lost the encounter 2-0.
Southampton enjoyed a fine run in the 1996 – 1997 league cup as they reached the last eight, however surprisingly lost against Stockport County in the quarter finals of the cup competition. They struggled in the premiership once against they could only manage to finish the season off in a disappointing sixth position. Jason Dodd and Francis Benali had been in fine form for the Saints through out the season.
Southampton made a resounding improvement during the 1997 – 1998 campaign in the premiership as they enjoyed a decent 12th place finish. They marginally crashed out of the league cup in the fourth round as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea after extra time being played in the match.
